Methodology and limitations
Ranking: dogeats.in editorial data compiled from our 58 breed guides, October 2026. Each guide rates a breed from 1 to 5 on heat, monsoon, flat living, coping without AC, being left alone and beginner friendliness. For Hyderabad we weighted heat 3, coping without AC 2, flat living 2, monsoon 1 and beginner friendliness 1, then scaled the weighted mean to 100.
Heat gets the top weight because April and May average 38C or more. Monsoon gets less weight than in Chennai or Kolkata because Hyderabad gets 860 mm a year. A guide that names Hyderabad as good adds 10 points, or 5 with a condition such as a yard. A guide that names it as hard takes away 15. Scores are capped at 0 and 100, the same method as our other city reports.
