Can Dogs Eat Panchmel Dal? Benefits, Risks & Indian Serving Tips
4 min read · Updated August 2026
Panchmel dal blends five lentils together, finished with a ghee-based tempering that often includes garlic and a good amount of spice, the tempering, not the lentils, is what makes this unsuitable for dogs.
Why Panchmel Dal Is Caution for Dogs
Panchmel Dal is a Rajasthani dal made from five different lentils, tempered with ghee, cumin, asafoetida and often garlic.
The five-lentil base is a reasonable plant protein mix on its own, but the traditional tempering (tadka) uses ghee, cumin, asafoetida and frequently garlic, all of which add up to more fat, salt and potential toxicity than is appropriate for a dog.
