Gongura pachadi is a sour Andhra chutney made from sorrel leaves cooked down with generous chilli and a mustard-seed tempering, often with garlic, a combination that's too harsh and potentially toxic for dogs.

Why Gongura Pachadi Is Caution for Dogs

Gongura Pachadi is a tangy Andhra chutney made from sorrel (gongura) leaves, tempered with mustard seeds and dried red chillies.

Sorrel (gongura) leaves are naturally high in oxalic acid, which in large amounts can affect calcium absorption and contribute to kidney stress; the traditional recipe compounds this with heavy dried red chilli and frequently garlic, both additional concerns for dogs.

Is There a Safe Amount of Gongura Pachadi for Dogs?

Frequently Asked Questions About Gongura Pachadi for Dogs

No, between the oxalic acid in the sorrel leaves and the heavy chilli and garlic in the traditional recipe, this chutney isn't suitable for dogs even in small amounts.
Not acutely toxic, but their high oxalic acid content means they shouldn't be a regular part of a dog's diet, similar to spinach in this respect.
A plain coconut chutney made without chilli, garlic or excess salt is a gentler option, see our coconut chutney guide for details.
Best to limit gongura pachadi to occasional servings rather than a daily one, for the reasons covered earlier.
Gongura pachadi should be limited for a Pomeranian the same as any dog, a small plain amount at most, given the concerns already covered.
