How big are India's pet companies?

Drools is the largest home-grown name. It reported Rs 932.3 crore of revenue in FY25, the year to March 2025, up from Rs 724.6 crore. It is 3.9 times the Rs 236.8 crore of Earth Paws, which runs Heads Up For Tails in India.

The startups are much smaller. Supertails, an online pet store and clinic chain, reported Rs 108.3 crore. Vetic, a vet clinic chain, reported Rs 62.9 crore and Zigly Rs 55 crore in FY26.

Mars International India is bigger than all of them, at Rs 2,375.7 crore in FY25. But that figure includes Snickers, Galaxy and other chocolates, so it is not a pet number.

No Indian pet company publishes a full-year figure for FY26 except Zigly, through its listed parent. Most private companies file with the Registrar of Companies months after the year ends.

These figures come from different bases. Supertails and Vetic report revenue from operations, Drools and Earth Paws total revenue, and Zigly segment revenue. Treat the ranking as a size guide, not a league table.

For the size of the whole pet food market, see our pet ownership and pet food market report. Estimates there run from USD 680 million to USD 2.5 billion.

How much does Pedigree sell in India?

Nobody outside Mars knows. Pedigree is sold in India by Mars International India, which also sells Snickers, Galaxy, Mars and Bounty. Its filings, as reported, do not split pet food from chocolate.

The whole company booked total income of Rs 2,339 crore in FY24, PTI reported from its RoC filing. Revenue from operations was Rs 2,329.92 crore, up 2.82%, and the loss narrowed to Rs 1.79 crore from Rs 38.86 crore.

For FY25, Tofler, which compiles company filings, shows total revenue of Rs 2,375.7 crore, up 1.57%. It shows a net loss of Rs 111.2 crore, or 4.7% of revenue. Revenue from operations was Rs 2,370.7 crore, up 1.75%. Tofler's series shows sales of Rs 1,297.7 crore in FY21, so revenue has grown 83% in four years.

Mars spent Rs 212.8 crore on advertising and promotion in FY24, up 24.71% from Rs 170.63 crore. It paid Rs 20.80 crore in royalty to its global parent, up 8.61%.

In that filing Mars said Indian pet owners lean towards premium dry food, wet food and treats. For shelf prices of Pedigree and rival brands, see our dog food price per kg tracker.

How big is Drools, and who owns a stake?

Drools grew revenue 28.7% to Rs 932.3 crore in FY25, per Inc42 Datalabs. Total expenses rose to Rs 973.6 crore, leaving a loss of Rs 49.9 crore, or 5.4% of revenue.

Two global investors hold minority stakes. L Catterton put in $60 million in June 2023, about 10% of the company. Nestlé bought a minority stake in May 2025 for an undisclosed sum.

At the Nestlé deal, Drools said it had six manufacturing units, more than 650 products and over 40,000 retail outlets. It exports to 22 countries and employs 3,400 people, including 1,800 in sales.

Supertails and Heads Up For Tails: revenue and losses

Supertails grew fastest among the pet retailers. Revenue from operations rose 67.6% to Rs 108.3 crore in FY25, Entrackr reported from RoC filings. Its loss widened 28% to Rs 52.5 crore.

Supertails spent Rs 165.8 crore to earn that revenue, or Rs 1.53 for every rupee. Materials cost Rs 83.3 crore, staff Rs 25.3 crore and marketing Rs 22.9 crore. Vet services brought in Rs 2.65 crore.

Heads Up For Tails is older and closer to break-even. Its Indian master franchisee, Earth Paws, earned Rs 236.8 crore in FY25, up 18.9%, and lost Rs 3.3 crore, per Inc42 Datalabs.

The HUFT numbers do not form one series. Entrackr's FY23 figure of Rs 312.8 crore combines its Singapore parent, Sara Global, with Earth Paws and two subsidiaries. The Inc42 figures cover Earth Paws alone.

In December 2025, Franchise India reported HUFT was close to a $25 million Series B led by Apparel Group's Nilesh Ved. It cited unnamed people and an annual run rate of about Rs 400 crore. We found no company confirmation.

Which pet care startups run vet clinics, and how are they doing?

Vet clinics are where the newest money is going. Vetic grew consolidated revenue 146.7% to Rs 62.9 crore in FY25. Services such as vaccination, consultation and grooming made Rs 33.6 crore, and product sales Rs 29.3 crore.

Vetic's loss rose to Rs 65.6 crore from Rs 40.2 crore. In June 2026 it raised $40 million led by Bessemer Venture Partners. It said it runs more than 65 clinics across 11 cities, plus 15 emergency facilities.

Zigly, owned by listed Cosmo First, earned Rs 55 crore in FY26, up 63%. In April to June 2026 it earned Rs 18 crore, up 70%, and ran 47 retail centres.

How much money have Indian pet startups raised?

The 14 rounds we could confirm, from 2021 to 2026, add up to $238.5 million where a dollar amount was given. Drools' $60 million from L Catterton in 2023 was the largest single round.

2026 is the busiest year so far, with $73.3 million in dollar rounds by 10 October. Supertails raised $30 million in February and Vetic $40 million in June.

Treat the totals as a floor. Several rounds were in rupees or undisclosed, and smaller angel rounds rarely get reported. Inc42 cites an estimate that over 500 pet startups have raised nearly $130 million, a figure we could not check.

How much pet food does India export and import?

India buys more packaged dog and cat food than it sells abroad. In 2025-26 it imported Rs 1,244.1 crore and exported Rs 711.6 crore, per the Commerce Ministry's TradeStat database. The gap was Rs 532.5 crore.

Exports have tripled since 2017-18, when they were Rs 234.2 crore. They nearly doubled to Rs 981.2 crore in 2023-24, then fell to Rs 627.9 crore in 2024-25 before recovering.

By weight, India imported 61,073 tonnes and exported 17,274 tonnes in 2025-26. Exports fetched Rs 411.9 a kg against Rs 203.7 a kg for imports, which points to pricier products such as treats going out.

What official data exists on India's pet industry?

Very little. No ministry publishes the size of the pet care market, and the Livestock Census counts dogs but not pet spending. TradeStat's trade figures are the only official money series we found.

We looked for DPIIT figures on recognised pet startups and found no published count. Company numbers here come from filings as read by Entrackr, Inc42 Datalabs, Tofler and PTI, or from Cosmo First's own presentation.

Private market estimates vary widely, so we leave them to our pet food market report. For insurance, a newer slice of the industry, see our pet insurance statistics.

How many pet startups are there in India?

There is no official count. We found no DPIIT figure for recognised pet startups. Inc42 cites an estimate of more than 500 pet care startups that have raised nearly $130 million, which we could not verify.

Which pet startups raised money in 2026?

Methodology and limitations

Company revenue and losses come from Registrar of Companies filings as reported by named outlets. Entrackr covers Supertails, Vetic, the Heads Up For Tails group and Dogsee Chew. Inc42 Datalabs covers Drools and Earth Paws, Tofler covers Mars for FY25, and PTI in Business Standard covers Mars for FY23 and FY24. Zigly's figures come from Cosmo First's Q1 FY27 investor presentation. We opened every source between 10 and 11 October 2026.

We did not have direct access to the filings. Revenue definitions differ: some are revenue from operations, some total revenue including other income, and Zigly is segment revenue. Growth rates and loss ratios are computed by us from the figures shown.

Funding rounds are listed only where a named outlet reported the date, amount and lead investor, or the company announced it. Dollar totals by year and company add only the dollar amounts in our table. The HUFT Series B is excluded because it was reported from unnamed sources.

We downloaded trade data from TradeStat (EIDB), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, on 11 October 2026. It covers HS code 23091000, dog or cat food put up for retail sale, in Rs crore and kg. Unit values are value divided by quantity. Figures for 2025-26 may still be revised.

Limitations. Private companies file accounts late, so the latest full-year figures are mostly for FY25, the year to March 2025. Revenue bases differ between companies and between sources, and we could not open the underlying filings ourselves. Our funding list covers rounds we could confirm, not every pet startup deal. Trade figures include cat food and only retail packs under one HS code, so treats and food in bulk packs may sit elsewhere.
